Better remember the City
Hall - as a foreigner you will have to go there often! |
|
| The General
Postoffice along Route 248 offers excellent services (mail,
pakets, money) and is open late. |

Recycling is important in Japan and
thus there are almost as many laws about taxes as about thrash.
Almost! A waste collection
place is marked like that. |
|
| If you come to Japan or Okazaki,
don't miss the opportunity to learn some Japanese at Yamasa. |

Miso,
a product well-known throughout Japan, Okazaki's Hatcho
Miso is produced in a two years lasting process using traditional
methods. Not only a good health product, also a good "omyage". |
|
| The Mindscape
Museum not only offers modern art and contemporary exhibitions
but also relaxing surroundings and splendid views in the enormous
Chuo Sogu Kouen. |

Anfusion
is just one of the many restaurants worth checking out. Cuisines
from all over the world are being served here on a daily basis. |

| Sports |
 |
In Okazaki, all sports
have loyal fans and performers. Traditional sports like Sumo
are probably the most interesting ones. Clubs mostly welcome
foreigners and short-time participation is usually for free. |
|
| Close to but slightly different from
western archery is kyuudo,
the Japanese archery version. The archery
range in Chou
Sogu Kouen is impressive but requires a membership in a
club. |

 |
Kendo
is a sword-fighting art and competition whose participants are
easily recognizable because of their heavy protection against
injuries in the heat of the duel. |
|
| In Japan, Judo
is much more a competitive sport than an art of self-defense.
Very popular by Japanese and foreigners alike and several clubs
exist in Okazaki. |

|
| Sightseeing |
|
|
| Primarily designed to be an opportunity
where children can actively create, the World
Children's Art Museum offers plenty for adults too. A good
day trip by bicycle, although car is recommended. |
 |

Okazaki is the source of most firework
designs sold in Japan, originating in the Shogun period of Tokugawa
Ieyasu. The massive fireworks festivals in August
attracts thousands of visitors from all Japan. |

| Nature |
 |
Okazaki is a city of parks and compared
to bigger cities in Japan a green heaven. Bring the kids, sit
in the lovely pagodas in Minami
Kouen or have a picknick in any of the below parks,
enjoy the fresh air and the view. |
|
| Higashi
Kouen is beautiful during the irises' high season. The kids
might be more interested in the small zoo displaying amongst
others an elephant,
camels, deer
and monkeys. |
 |
|
 |
Daimon
Kouen is small park in the northern part of Okazaki, ideal
for a barbeque. Embedded in green and next to the Yahagi
river. |
