Sports - Kendo:

For those of you that don't know what Kendo is, it is a modern martial art
based in the ancient japanese sword martial art of kenjutsu. Kendo is both Budo
and competetive sport, and depending on your sensei either may be emphasized.
In Kendo, one uses a shinai, or split bamboo sword, in attempting to strike
the opponent in the head, throat, stomach or wrists. Padding and face masks
are worn to protect the competitors during shiai, or tournaments.

Where can I learn Kendo in Okazaki?
Kendo can be practiced twice a week at the Okazaki
City Gym. The practices take place on the bottom floor of the gym where
Judo practices are also done on alternate days.
Certain equipment such as pads and face mask are provided, as well as shinai
and bokken. However, if you are going to practice for an extended period, buying
your own bokken and shinai is appropriate (see "Tanei").
Class times are the following:
Tuesday/Thursday 6:00pm - 7:30pm.
Train By Yourself
On Thursdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the Okazaki
City Gym Budojo is open to any one who wishes to train by themselves. Both
a hard wood floor, suitable for Karate/Kendo
and a padded floor for Judo/Aikido
are available. The price is a mere 200 yen for the four hours. Heat is available
for 100 yen per half hour and hot showers are available for 100 yen.
