For those of you that don't know what Kendo is, it is a modern martial art based in the ancient japanese sword martial art of kenjutsu. Kendo is both Budo and competetive sport, and depending on your sensei either may be emphasized. In Kendo, one uses a shinai, or split bamboo sword, in attempting to strike the opponent in the head, throat, stomach or wrists. Padding and face masks are worn to protect the competitors during shiai, or tournaments.Where can I learn Kendo in Okazaki?
Kendo can be practiced twice a week at the Okazaki City Gym. The practices take place on the bottom floor of the gym where Judo practices are also done on alternate days. Certain equipment such as pads and face mask are provided, as well as shinai and bokken. However, if you are going to practice for an extended period, buying your own bokken and shinai is appropriate (see "Tanei).
